CHALLENGE
ACG Tauranga is a private co-educational school located in the new development area of Payes Pa. The school offers education from preschool to Year 13.
In this new development at the state-of-the-art campus, it was imperative that insulation was utilised to reduce sound transmission and keep the students and staff warm in winter and cool in summer.
SOLUTION
The mixture of timber and steel framing in this project meant versatile products to suit various applications were required. A key deliverable was for the insulation to reduce noise transfer between rooms and rain noise from the ceiling. Knauf Insualtion engaged the services of Marshal Day acoustic engineers in order to provide comprehensive acoustic analysis for both the polyester and glasswool products to support the switch in specification to Earthwool® glasswool insulation.
Earthwool® glasswool insulation: acoustic batts, 14kg/m3 were installed in the suspended ceiling and Earthwool® glasswool insulation: acoustic batts, 11kg/m3 were installed in the steel stud walls. In the external walls, Earthwool® glasswool insulation: wall batts, R2.6 were chosen for their thermal and added acoustic benefit.
RESULT
Knauf Insulation facilitated communication between the installer, architect, acoustic engineers and construction company and provided high level technical information. The seemless process and customer centric approach helped the installer, Knauf Insulation’s customer, to switch the specification to Earthwool® glasswool.
Earthwool® glasswool is providing the school with superior acoustic and thermal performance. In addition to superior performance, use of Earthwool® glasswool products also provided significant savings to the overall cost of the project. The super-soft handling and ease of cutting made the installation quick and easy.
