Bethlehem Shores Retirement Village Case Study

CHALLENGE

Bethlehem Shores Retirement Village is located in one of Tauranga’s most sought-after suburbs, Bethlehem. The Bethlehem Shores’ residents are privy to water views across the harbour to the Kaimai Ranges and soon will have access to the largest retirement village clubhouse in New Zealand. The $8.3 million clubhouse will span 3400m² and will feature a health spa, entertainment area and communal open plan lounge.

SOLUTION

Nathan Sanderson, Developer, said: “The Clubhouse is a great space for the residents to socialise with other residents of Bethlehem Shores, it was therefore important that the insulation would help to stabilise the indoor air temperature all year round so that it would be comfortable for the residents.”

Earthwool^® glasswool insulation was chosen for Bethlehem Shores Clubhouse because of its excellent thermal performance and energy saving credentials.

The walls were constructed with a 140mm cavity. Earthwool^® glasswool insulation: Wall batts, R4.1, were chosen to fill the void and provide optimal thermal performance.

In the ceiling, Earthwool^® glasswool insulation: Ceiling batt, R3.6 and Earthwool^® glasswool insulation: Ceiling blanket, R3.6 were double layered to achieve higher than minimum building standards.

RESULT

“The wide range of high performing Earthwool^® glasswool insulation allowed us to choose a product, which would achieve higher than minimum building code standards and create a comfortable living environment for the residents,” explained Nathan.
